Information Technology
Key Department Functions:
- Providing Equitable Life with a technological infrastructure capable of supporting our business in both today's and tomorrow's competitive financial services environment
- Supporting the delivery of existing legacy systems and introducing newer technologies

- Delivering timely, cost-effective technology-related solutions to business issues and initiatives

Investment
Key Department Functions:
- Recommending and implementing Equitable Life's investment strategies
- Managing investment portfolios comprised of short term investments, bonds, preferred shares, equities, real estate, commercial and residential mortgages
- Managing the Company's portfolio of segregated funds
- Managing asset/liability matching policies
Frequent Qualifications Include:
- Undergraduate degree in business, mathematics, accounting or economics
- Achievement, or working towards an FCSI or CFA designation
Finance
Key Department Functions:
- Preparing financial statements
- Maintaining accounts and records
- Budgeting, strategic planning, taxation and payroll

- Undergraduate studies in accounting
- Committed to achieve either a CA, CMA or CGA accounting designation
Sales and Distribution
Key Department Functions:
- Monitoring and communicating current product and pricing trends
- Assist in creating new products and enhancing existing products in conjunction with other departments
- Establishing and sustaining Group and Individual sales distribution systems
- Producing promotional materials
- Coordinating Company conferences and sales campaigns
- Maintaining field office communications

Corporate Actuarial
Key Department Functions:
- Producing the policy liabilities of the Company for regulatory and board reports
- Analyzing/determining profits and losses
- Producing figures required for creating the business plan
- Performing Dynamic Capital Adequacy Testing for assessment of current and potential future capital requirements
- Providing research and advice to other areas of the Company with respect to the selection of risks, pricing, product design, profitability, policyholder dividends and cash flow management
Frequent Qualifications Include:
- A comprehensive academic performance record with a background in actuarial mathematics, mathematics, business or statistics
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Successfully completed at least Course 1 of the actuarial education program, jointly sponsored by the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries

Individual Product Development
Key Department Functions:
- Designing and pricing Individual products
- Monitoring Equitable Life's competitive position including current product and pricing trends and making required product enhancements
- Designing and supporting the Company's sales illustration system
- Creating new products and enhancing existing products
Frequent Qualifications Include:
- A competitive academic performance record with a mathematics, business, finance or statistical background

Individual Marketing Services
Key Department Functions:
- Working with the Product Development department to research and design Equitable's Individual products
- Developing marketing materials and sales concepts
- Providing both marketing, tax and product support to our regional offices and Independent Producers
- Producing product, promotional and marketing materials

- A strong marketing background
- Solid life insurance and/or annuity product knowledge

Individual Customer Service Representatives
Key Department Functions:
- Servicing and maintaining relationships with new and existing policyholders, Independent Producers and their staff
- Working with both French and English-speaking clients via phone and correspondence to administer service and process all new and inforce policies in an accurate and professional manner
- Maintaining high standards of customer service by developing and maintaining a solid knowledge of industry legislation, Company practices and products, and Independent Producer contracts
Frequent Qualifications Include:
- Annuity and Individual product knowledge
- Solid understanding of the customer service function, preferably acquired in an insurance/annuity environment
- Degree or diploma in business, finance or liberal arts
- ACS designation
Underwriting
Individual Underwriting
- Identifying the insurance risk on the life of an individual person(s), based on various factors that determine the degree of risk represented by the applicant.
Group Underwriting
- Identifying the risk associated with providing benefit coverage for a group of people, based on such factors as average age, gender mix, industry, previous claims experience and marketing trends.
Frequent Qualifications Include:
- A degree or diploma in business, finance or liberal arts
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
- Strong analytical and decision-making abilities
- Appropriate Group or Individual product knowledge may be necessary, depending on the position requirements
Group Product Development (Actuarial)
Key Department Functions:
- Developing and pricing new Group Life and Health products
- Ensuring that existing products are maintained on a competitive and profitable basis
- Assist in developing underwriting and marketing strategies
- Providing technical assistance to our Group Marketing Managers in the sale and retention of business, and experience analysis on our Group Life and Health portfolio
Frequent Qualifications Include:
- A comprehensive academic performance record with a background in actuarial mathematics, mathematics, business or statistics
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Successfully completed at least Course 1 of the actuarial program of the Society of Actuaries
- Position level may require higher standards
Group Accounts Service
Key Department Functions:
- Administering and accurately processing Group policy premiums
- Ensuring that employees and eligible dependents are accurately enrolled for coverage and that the benefit coverage is administered in accordance with the terms of the policy
- Ensuring that optimal customer service is provided to all customers, including policyholders, insured employees, Independent Producers, Group office staff, colleagues and management in Head Office by maintaining a solid knowledge of industry legislation, Company practices, products and Group contracts
Frequent Qualifications Include:
- A degree or diploma
- Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical, mathematical and decision making abilities
Group Claims
Key Department Functions:
- Responsible for adjudicating all claims related to group insurance plans. This includes, life insurance, dependent life insurance, optional life insurance, optional dependent life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment, long term Disability, short term disability and health and dental
Dental Claim Area
Key Functions:
- Responsible for all dental claims and estimates
- Provide customer service for all claimants, policyholders, dental offices etc.
Frequent Qualifications Include:
- Previous customer service experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Previous experience in a dental environment (Dental Assistant or Receptionist)
Health Claim Area
Key Functions:
- Responsible for all health related claims
- Provide customer service for all claimants, policyholders, dental offices etc.
Frequent Qualifications Include:
- Previous customer service experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Previous experience in a health related environment (Receptionist in a Physician's office or Physiotherapist, or Pharmacy counter assistance)
Disability/Life Claim Area
Key Functions:
- Responsible for all disability and life related claims, including both long and short term disability, life, dependent life and accidental death and dismemberment claims
- Responsible for case management on an on-going basis for long and short term disability
- Provide customer service for all claimants, policyholders, physicians, lawyers etc.
Frequent Qualifications Include:
- Five years' previous experience adjudicating disability and life claims at a senior level or a degree in a health related field (In particular, kinesiology, nursing or health sciences)
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Good knowledge of medical terminology
Investigation Services Area
Key Functions:
- Investigation of inappropriate or potentially fraudulent claims and taking proactive measures against fraud, recovering money and reducing future losses for policyholders
- Provide customer service for all claimants, policyholders, providers etc
- Provide education and training for staff in other areas of the group division
Frequent Qualifications Include:
- Previous claims experience
- Degree in a related field would be a definite asset
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
