Accountabilities:

  • Design, develop and unit test high-performance, scalable database applications
  • Provide on call production support
  • Investigate and analyze production system problems and recommend workable solutions
  • Review code committed by others as requested to maintain good coding practices
  • Mentor junior and intermediate team members
  • Research and recommend appropriate new technologies to the team and management
  • Provide system design recommendations based on long-term IT organization strategy
  • Document all program and system changes for ease of future support
  • Contribute business and technical expertise to the development and planning process

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in Computer Science or a related field
  • A strong technical background with high proficiency in Visual Basic 6, .NET and C# and/or VB.NET with at least 5 years of relevant experience
  • A strong working knowledge of ADO.NET, Windows Communication Foundation (WCF)
  • A solid knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and Transact SQL with at least 5 years of relevant experience
  • A working knowledge of XML and related technologies like XSD, SOAP, and WSDL
  • Hands on experience using testing frameworks (ie. NUnit, Visual Studio, xUnit, etc)
  • Experience of working as part of an agile team (an asset)
  • Experience with Team Foundation Server, SSRS, SSIS (assets)
  • Excel, word, Visio, access
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • General knowledge of insurance industry (an asset)
